0 Road Closure: SH7 Reefton to Springs Junction (Rahu Saddle)
Road Works Due to culvert replacement works, this section of road will be closed in both directions on Tuesday 4th November between 8am and 4pm and on Wednesday 5th November between 8am and 12pm. In addition, the road will close on Wednesday 5th November between 1pm and 5pm with the road reopening every hour to allow queued traffic through the site. Various temporary traffic management will be in place on Thursday 6th November between 8am and 4pm. Plan your journey accordingly. Detour route During closures. detour via SH65, SH6 and SH69. Please note this detour will add approximately one and a half hours to your journey time. Resurfacing Due to paving works, this section of road will be closed in both directions on Wednesday 29th January to Thursday 13th February nights between 7pm and 5am (Excluding the nights of Wednesday 5th February and Thursday 6th February). The road will reopen every night at midnight to allow queued traffic through the site. Plan your journey accordingly and avoid travel during these times. We have done an estimate of the travel time for the Waiouru detour through National Park. At an average speed of 80kph (Allowing for more traffic and all the trucks) we estimate the time to be more likely 1Hr 20mins. There is no sense making risky manoeuvres because you’re impatient, just wait for a good passing area. The less closures because of crashes, the better for all.
